My heart is heavy as I think about the challenging start to this year.
As many of you know, Los Angeles is still currently facing the devastation of widespread wildfires that have impacted countless families and communities. We grieve alongside everyone who has lost their homes, their belongings and have been forced to become displaced. Countless schools, landmarks and businesses have been destroyed and just far too many folks are facing heartbreaking losses.
Additionally, one of the hardest-hit areas had been Altadena, a historic Black community, where more than 4700 structures in the city have been destroyed. The Eaton fire alone not only left homes and businesses burned to the ground, but tragically, it has also claimed 17 lives. They included an 83-year-old retired Lockheed Martin project manager, 95-year-old actress Dalyce Curry who’s films date back to old Hollywood, and a 67-year-old amputee who relied on a wheelchair. Additionally, his adult son, who had cerebral palsy was also tragically lost with him during this time.
In times like these, it’s absolutely imperative that we come together as a community to offer support, whether it’s through donations, spreading awareness, or simply checking in on those around us. As we near what will undoubtedly be a long road to rebuild + recovery, I am reaching out to all of you today not only to raise awareness but also to share ways you can make a real difference for those in need.
Here are some ways you can help:
LA Fire Community Resources: The good folks over at WALK GOOD LA have partnered with the community and put together this incredible list of resources– from volunteer opportunities, to job postings, Lost pets, supporting the firefighters, applying for FEMA, receiving fire alerts, and even the ability to donate directly to displaced Black and Latino families, there are so many helpful ways to get involved. Click on the link below for a wide range of opportunities on how you can be of service to someone in need. CLICK HERE FOR RESOURCES
Volunteer: If you’re in the area and able to assist, many organizations are seeking volunteers to help with evacuation centers, distribution of supplies, and rebuilding efforts.
Donate Supplies: Local shelters and community organizations are always in need of essential items such as clothing, toiletries, food, and water. Check online for any drives or drop-off locations where you can contribute.
Share Information: Help spread awareness of how people can contribute by sharing this post, or by simply sharing information about local relief efforts. Social media can be a powerful tool in connecting people who want to help with those who need assistance.
Check on Your Neighbors: Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness are the most impactful. Reach out to friends, family, or neighbors who may be affected by the fires. Whether it’s offering a place to stay, lending a hand, or just providing a listening ear, every gesture counts.
The devastation caused by these wildfires is unimaginable, but together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling to rebuild. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my community and for all those who are working tirelessly to help those in need.
Please stay safe, and if you’re able, take a moment to contribute in any way you can. Every action, big or small, helps bring hope to those facing the hardest times of their lives.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Take care of one another, stay safe and be well my friends.
I often receive this question: “Where can I study the craft of acting and truly refine my skills?” It’s a question that resonates deeply with me. My own journey began at a local community college in my hometown and since then, I’ve had the great privilege to train at some remarkable institutions. South Coast Repertory, Oscar Winner Tim Robbins Actor’s Gang, The Joy of Acting Studio, Identity School of acting, among many others. Each experience has enriched my understanding of the art.
While there are countless avenues to explore, today I want to highlight a few of my current favorite acting classes in the Los Angeles area that I believe will truly elevate your craft. So let’s get into it:
I had the pleasure of being featured in Canvas Rebel Magazine where I discuss a bit of my journey, my creative mission and also offer some insight on how one can get started in this business. Check out the full interview titled MEET DENNIS PEARSON here:
Blues for an Alabama sky named one of the Best plays of 2022 by LA TIMES
I’m so full of gratitude this morning.
In a year where many audiences were adjusting to the idea of returning to the theatre following the pandemic, artists working in LA turned in some truly fantastic performances. (I personally LOVED and was inspired by Sir Simon Russell Beale’s brilliant performance in the epic LEHMAN TRILOGY production at the Ahmanson.)

Harlem, 1930. Where the Blues are getting bluer and the gin is running dry.
A free-spirited Cotton Club singer has just been fired with nowhere left to go but down. So, she turns to her best friend, an extravagant costume designer with plans to dress Josephine Baker in Paris. Maybe they can run away together. Or maybe the handsome southerner that just came knocking can offer an even better life. But the saxophone dreams of Harlem rarely end as smoothly as they start.
